🌾 Rice Milling: June 2026
🌾 What Makes This Rice Special? (భూమిలో పాతరేయడం, Age Old Storage Underground)
After harvesting, the paddy was traditionally stored underground for approximately four months, a practice locally known in Telugu as "భూమిలో పాతరేయడం (Bhoomilo Pātareyadam)."
This age-old storage method is traditionally believed to help the grains mature naturally, enhancing cooking quality, taste, and overall grain stability before milling. The rice was then single (semi) polished, helping retain more of its natural bran layer compared with highly polished rice.

🍚 Cooking Tips for the Best Results
1️⃣ Soak Before Cooking
Soak Bahurupi Desi Rice for 30–45 minutes before cooking. As this rice is single (semi) polished and retains more of the grain's natural fiber than highly polished rice, soaking helps the grains absorb water evenly and cook more consistently.
2️⃣ Cook on a Low Flame
For stovetop cooking, simmer the rice on a low flame after it reaches a boil. Gentle cooking helps preserve the grain's natural texture and flavour, and is traditionally preferred for desi rice varieties.
3️⃣ Retain the Soaking Water
Whenever possible, cook the rice using the same water in which it was soaked. This is a traditional practice followed in many households to help retain naturally occurring water-soluble nutrients. If the rice requires additional cleaning, you may discard the soaking water and use fresh water instead.
4️⃣ Wash Gently
Avoid washing the rice vigorously or repeatedly. A single gentle rinse is usually sufficient. Excessive washing may remove part of the surface bran that remains on single (semi) polished rice, where much of its naturally occurring dietary fiber and nutrients are present.
5️⃣ Water Ratio
- Stovetop: 1 cup rice : 2.5 cups water
- Rice Cooker: 1 cup rice : 1.75 cups water
6️⃣ Adjust to Your Preference
Every kitchen, rice cooker, and cooking vessel is different. We recommend cooking a small quantity the first two or three times and adjusting the water slightly to achieve your preferred softness and texture.
