🩺 Why Choose Low-GI Rice?
The glycemic index (GI) indicates how quickly a carbohydrate-containing food raises blood glucose compared with a reference food.
Foods with a GI of 55 or below are generally classified as low-GI. The published study on RNR 15048 reported a GI of 51.0, placing this variety in the low-GI category.
A lower-GI rice can be a useful choice for people who are mindful of their blood-sugar response, particularly when eaten in appropriate portions as part of a balanced meal.
Important: Low-GI does not mean sugar-free or carbohydrate-free. Rice still contains carbohydrates, and portion size, cooking method and the foods eaten along with rice can influence the overall blood-glucose response.
🌿 Traditional Beliefs
RNR rice is also valued in traditional food practices as a wholesome everyday rice.
Traditional knowledge shared by farming and natural-food communities commonly associates this rice with:
- 🌾 A nourishing choice for everyday meals
- ❤️ Suitable for families looking for a lighter rice option
These statements represent traditional beliefs and food practices, not established medical claims. Pregnancy, diabetes and other medical conditions require individualized dietary advice from a qualified healthcare professional.
🍚 How to Cook
For best results, soak RNR Low G.I. Rice for 30–45 minutes before cooking.
Water Ratio
Open Cooking:
1 cup rice + 2 cups water
Rice Cooker:
1 cup rice + 1.5 cups water
For your first few preparations, try a small quantity and adjust the water according to the softness and texture your family prefers. You will usually get a clear understanding of the ideal ratio after 2–3 cooking attempts.
👩🍳 Tazawan Cooking Tips
1️⃣ Soak Before Cooking
Soaking for 30–45 minutes helps the grains absorb water more evenly and can improve cooking consistency.
2️⃣ Cook on Low Flame
After boiling, cook gently on a low flame. Slow cooking helps retain the natural texture and taste of the rice.
3️⃣ Avoid Discarding Soaking Water
Whenever practical, use the soaking water for cooking rather than discarding it.
4️⃣ Wash Gently
Do not wash the rice vigorously or repeatedly. One gentle wash is generally sufficient, particularly when using less-polished rice, because excessive washing can remove some surface bran and water-soluble nutrients.
5️⃣ Find Your Perfect Water Ratio
Every vessel, cooker and household preference is different. Start with the recommended ratio and make small adjustments after your first few cooking attempts.
